About Me
Hi! I’m Helen Reavey — trichologist, hairstylist, founder of Act+Acre, and most recently, a new mum. These days, my life revolves around healthy hair, balanced scalps, and figuring out how to balance bottles with business (spoiler: still working on it).
I launched Act+Acre out of my kitchen with my husband and had a wild idea that scalp care would be the future of haircare. Turns out, we were onto something.
I’m here to talk about hair, obviously. But also about the life that happens in between washes — debunking the myths we’ve heard for decades, what most frequently comes up in my DMs, the things I’m learning as a founder, a mum, and most likely the best pastry I had this weekend.
So… WTF is a trichologist?
Glad you asked (I get this a lot). A trichologist is basically a dermatologist for your scalp but with the banter of a hairstylist. I trained at the United States Trichology Institute in New York to get to the root (literally) of what impacts your hair — from diet to hormones to environmental stress — and how to fix it without falling for the gimmicks.
Good hair isn’t just about the right products — it’s about understanding your scalp and what it actually needs.
A few other things you should know about me:
My morning matcha is non-negotiable. Please send any and all recommendations.
I’m on a never-ending hunt for the perfect croissant. (If you’ve found it, let me know.)
